World Hypnotherapy Day - Friday 4th January 2008
Next Friday is World Hypnotherapy Day - a day used to open minds and disspell myths about hypnosis and hypnotherapy. From my point of view as a practising hypnotherapist, I feel that hypnosis is a much under valued and under used tool to bring about positive change in one’s life.
Forget what you see in stage shows or movies or TV - no-one can control you except yourself. All hypnosis (a deep concentrated relaxation) is self hypnosis. You are in control. Your therapist is like a tour guide - showing you how to access the deep recesses of your subconscious mind to bring about change. You can stop unwanted habits, overcome anxiety and stress, banish guilt feelings, become more confident - as long as you really want to - words are great but the magic lies in the feeling behind the words. How many times do you say “I wish I had more confidence” and then go and let someone else take control or “I wish I could stop smoking” while reaching for the next cigarette. We all want to be richer, slimmer, more confident but if you can harness what these things mean to you and how different your life would be with or without it then you can make it happen. What the mind can believe, the mind can achieve. So the next time to reach for a Xanax to calm you think about hypnotherapy and you learn a skill for life.
Give a man a fish and he eats for one day - teach a man to fish and he eats forever!
