You may have found ways over the years to reduce your anxiety in social situations but find that the shyness and avoidance tendencies have remained. Which makes you feel that you really have made no progress at all. Anxiety, shyness and avoidance techniques are three separate entities and all three need to be worked on.

The shyness and avoidance techniques are controlled by the subconscious mind and the only way to improve the ideas/thoughts about yourself is to access the subconscious mind through hypnosis.

Hypnosis is a relaxation where you have your eyes closed and you can focus on the past memories that give grief today so that you can view them with new eyes and thereby take away the emotional connection. This in turn allows you to determine how you should feel about yourself so that you can adjust your behaviours to more beneficial ones. Being proactive rather than reactive and taking charge of your mind so that you can be more more socially comfortable and take up your rightful space in society.

Once the mind and body are relaxed, then you are relaxed with your mind free to be part of what is actually happening. In this, the rumination and anxiety before an event disappears, you are less self conscious at the event and when you post mortem it, you see the fun times.

If you want to overcome your social anxiety, stop/reduce your shyness, change your behaviours, let me help you with hypnosis as you develop a new skill set and gain a happier, more relaxed you.

The beauty of hypnosis and hypnotherapy is that it is a brief therapy, we focus on how you want to be so you are not years in therapy. I help you to bring your dream of your ideal self into your grasp. You will see results even after the 1st session. Call me on 086 1038892. Offices in Dublin City Centre (Dawson Street), Limerick City and Portlaoise.

The irritability, how will you cope, what will you do with your hands and you may have other thoughts? All of these are fears – apprehensions about what might happen. Of course, if this is what you believe and indeed, this may have been your experience with stopping smoking and these frustrations become the reality. Why is that? The simplest explanation is that it happens because you thought it. By visualising the hardship and difficulty stopping cigarette smoking, you set in train the course of irritability and inability to cope with stressful situations. But what if there was another way? With hypnosis you are learning a technique that allows you to feel more calm and relaxed. In your session with me, we look at what you believe life will be like being smokefree – the fears and how you can make adjustments to feel great about your decision. The emphasis is that you can stop smoking as long as you want to stop smoking.

This was recorded in your subconscious as a scene to be protected from. With social anxiety, your thinking process and body language is inwards either trying to curl up into a ball, to disappear as you feel you have no right to take up the space you do. This idea of disappearing or wanting to escape while a protection for you compounds your social anxiety as each time you have to be with others, you struggle more and more.

If you feel you are always on the edge of the group, physically there but never quite present, then let me help you with hypnosis become the person you want to be. I can help you to move your thoughts to focus on what is actually going on rather than your perception – focusing outwards rather than inwards. There is no need to continue to suffer as you are allowing some past event to shape your future. If you want to gain control of your thoughts and emotions, call me on 086 1038892 or email zita@zitastanley.com. Appointments in Baggot Street and Portlaoise.

Cigarettes Butts

The top five reasons to give up smoking are:

Health – are you already suffering the ill effects of smoking? Perhaps members of yo ur family are affected by second hand smoke leading to bronchitis, asthma or other health problems.

Better professional image – do you really want to be remembered for your smoky breath and stale smell on your body from smoking cigarettes. You are brighter when you are smoke free.

Sense of achievement – you have been controlled by cigarettes for so long. Now your desire to be happy, healthy and smoke free is driving you to take back control of you.

Set a good image – maybe you have a baby or grandchild and you wish to set a good example to children. Or perhaps you have been promoted and your desire to be smoke free is two fold – better image at work and encouraging those under you to be become smoke free.

More money – think what you could do with the money you can save by not spending it on cigarettes. It is like a tax free pay rise for you.

Am I Ready to be Smoke free?

Ask yourself the following questions, take your time and answer them honestly.

What will being smoke free do for you?

What have you been getting out of smoking until now?

Can you list at least 3 reasons for becoming smoke free?

When do you want to be smoke free?

Is there any context in which you don’t want to be smoke free?

What stops you from making the change?

Is there anything you could lose as a result of being smoke free?

What will you gain by being smoke free.

What do you need to do in order to become smoke free?

Is what you want worth wanting?

What could go wrong?

Can anything stop you?

Are you ready to be smoke free?

Write your answers down to make sure you have really thought about becoming smoke free.

Check-list

You need to make sure that you are 100% ready to be smoke free. The reason why you have not become smoke free in the past was probably due to the fact that part of you (at a subconscious level) wanted to continue smoking. See Am I Ready to be Smoke free?.

You must ensure that:

You are not undergoing any major life stresses at present;

You can devote 30 minutes a day to listen to your session for the next three weeks;

You are prepared to follow the Tips for Staying Smoke free.

If you are a recovering alcoholic or drug addict you must ensure that you have a support system in place. You have worked hard to overcome your previous addiction so you do not want to revert

to it. Support is extremely important.

Quit Smoking Right Now

The Quit Smoking Right Now program is a tried, tested and proven technique of hypnosis and NLP that makes it so easy for you to quit the nicotine habit, that by the end of only one session, you can be a confident, happy, healthy, relaxed non-smoker!

If it is that easy to stop smoking with hypnosis/NLP why do so many people continue to smoke?

In my experience I have found that for most people the answer comes down to one thing...FEAR! Continue reading →

If it is that easy to stop smoking with hypnosis/NLP why do so many people continue to smoke?

In my experience I have found that for most people the answer comes down to one thing…FEAR!

FEAR that you’ll never be able to continue your life as a non smoker and be completely free of nicotine;
FEAR that you’ll put on weight or start biting your fingernails;
FEAR that you’ll have to give up the pleasurable crutch that your smoking habit seems to give you;
FEAR that in order to become smoke free you have to through some kind of terrible trauma or painful feelings;
FEAR that when you become smoke free you are unable to enjoy life or handle stress;
FEAR of failure in your attempts to become smoke free.

All of these examples of FEAR are simply potential symptoms of the one simple reason that until now you have not been able to stop smoking and this in itself is another FEAR

The fear that it will prove too difficult and far too painful when you attempt to stop smoking!

Hypnosis or NLP, or anything else, cannot magically remove your need or desire to smoke. But it helps control your cravings, your urge to smoke. With the techniques you learn during our stop smoking program you gain tools to help you deal with stressful situations, whether by using a cue, a breathing technique or a mantra, without falling back to smoking.

Fear is the reason why most people are happy and content to stay in the their comfort zone even though they complain about what goes on around them. As the saying goes: “better the Devil you know”. There is a comfort about complaining. Do you know someone who drains you by constantly complaining? You ask “how are you” and you actually get to hear all about their woes and pains when in fact you just want a pleasantry back.

What is F.E.A.R. and why am I writing it like that. Well, let’s look at the letters:

F is False

E is Expectation

A is Appearing

R is Real

Fear = False Expectations Appearing Real

Now say it again and again.

Now think of situations that made you fearful, but you did it anyway and then when it was over, you wondered why it had bothered you so much.

So don’t let your False Expectations Appearing Real hold you back. Take control of your life and quit smoking now.

Tips for Staying Smoke Free

Get rid of all cigarettes and ashtrays before your stop smoking session or as soon as you possibly can after the session.

Drink plenty of water.

Enjoy some gentle exercise.

Focus on the benefits of being smoke free – health/finances/self esteem.

Change your routine – if you always smoked at break do something else.

Avoid smokers at least for the first 3 weeks.

Avoid nicotine patches, gum etc. – you could become addicted to these instead!

Find something else to do with your hands.

Choose to become smoke free when you are unlikely to become stressed.

Brush your teeth if you need to distract yourself.

Reward yourself for being smoke free for a week, two weeks etc. Motivation helps.

Remember the reasons why you became smoke free.

Remaining smoke free will not be easy but it will get easier each day that passes.

Have a “sponsor” in place for times of need. The best person may be someone who used to smoke. They know what you are going through.

Are you a yo-yo dieter?

Do you know how many calories everything has?

Do you try every fad diet usually for two/three days and then give up?

Are you tired of regaining more weight each time?

Then hypnosis could be the answer for you. So why is losing weight such a minefield when putting the weight on is so easy? Well, we have two sides to our brain – a right side and a left side. The left side loves to diet, it loves numbers, counting points, portion sizes, calories etc. UNFORTUNATELY, WE EAT WITH THE RIGHT SIDE OF OUR MIND! That’s the emotional size. For this reason, any permanent weight loss can only be achieved with behavioural changes. That is where hypnosis comes in. Hypnosis allows direct communication with the subconscious which is where habits are formed. Hypnosis itself is perfectly safe. Forget what you have seen on stage shows. It is a deep relaxation where your mind and body can relax totally. During this deep relaxation, your subconscious mind is extremely suggestible and that’s when I, as a hypnotherapist, give new positive suggestions.

So how does hypnosis work on weight loss?

What’s the first thing you read on most diets ” DO NOT EAT..” In order not to eat something, your mind has to picture it first in order to discard it unfortunately, when you picture the banned item, you more than likely want to eat it right now! This is the problem with diets. Emotions and food are interconnected. Our relationships with food are complex.

Hypnosis gives you the opportunity to redefine your emotional ties to food and break them. Then new healthier suggestions are given. Women, in general, tend to scold themselves for being “bold” if they have a treat or are “good” if they miss a meal (which you should never do). Magazines are being blamed for young girls now having eating problems when in fact, they are just emulating their mothers who, without realizing it, are passing on their food issues to their impressionable daughters.

Your mind is a powerful tool and you can use it to your advantage in the war against weight.

Hypnosis is not a magic cure all. You will not have a session and suddenly all your weight is gone. What hypnosis helps you do is:

establish a new relationship with food;

feel better about yourself;

become healthier and happy.

Remember, you must be realistic and I cannot stress that enough. Using hypnosis in your weight loss changes your attitude towards food (unlike diets) so you are not going on or coming off a diet, it is your new way of living. Hypnosis frees you from the emotional ties of food.

Hypnosis, which is a concentrated relaxation, is a wonderful technique to immediately ease any feelings of anxiety from palpitations to claminess, the queasiness in your tummy etc. With hypnosis you are learning how to calm all the systems in your body. When you become anxious, the body’s stress system is alerted and the “fight or flight” response occurs, with this all energy is sent to your arms and legs so the heart must beat faster to pump this extra blood around your body. At the same time, your digestive system slows and this will cause your throat to become dry. Sweating occurs to regulate body temperature caused by the adrenaline released through your body. Your mind turns to mush, you cannot concentrate, there is a cloudiness to your mind and your vision may even become distorted. This is very scary. But what would happen if you could control these symptoms, quickly and effectively, what would you think of that, how would you feel to have a feeling of calmness, being able to have your head clear in situations where you previously felt uncomfortable. What would it be like to stop worrying about something that hasn’t happened yet. With hypnosis, we focus on the difference this would make to your life, how you would feel, what you would be like physically and emotionally – more in control, happier and content. I am like the tour guide to your mind, showing you how to use hypnosis and NLP techniques to bring a balance because anxiety brings chaos to your internal system and your thoughts. Thoughts are great but they do not have much impact without feelings. Something emotional caused you to feel anxious and this caused your subconscious mind to be penetrated and encode this information of fear and anxiety. It stands to reason that only your subconscious can help you to overcome these feelings. This is where the upset lives inside and this is the only place to go to reprogramme your mind and to condition a better, more appropriate set of responses that show that you are in control. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to regain control of you and have a life that you choose? Aren’t you worth that? Appointments at 15 Upper Baggot Street, Dublin 2. Call me on 086 1038892 or email zita@zitastanley.com.
