Sleep Problems & Insomnia: Hypnosis can help

How many times have you gone to bed and just kept your eyes open, feeling agitated, looking at the clock, waiting for sleep to come over you.  Or you wake up at 3 or 4 am, look at the clock and try to will yourself to go back to sleep because you know you have get up in x amount of hours and yet you continue to see the clock…until of course, your alarm goes off and it is like you have been hit with a hammer!  Now, of course, you would sleep.  What’s going on.  To sleep your mind and body must be both tired.  Reading or watching tv in bed actually stimulates your mind because you may get involved in the action of the movie or vividly see the characters in your book come to life in your mind.  Then your body becomes tense and agitated.  So how can hypnosis help, hypnosis works by progressively tensing and relaxing the body muscles and your mind focuses on each of these movements.  You think thoughts of “I am becoming sleepy and tired” or if you have a problem bothering you, welcome sleep so that you subconscious mind can unravel what is going on behind the problem.  You have heard the expression “sleep on it” – to help to resolve any problems.  The Law of Reversed Effect comes into play – when you force yourself to sleep and you are not tired, the opposite occurs, you become more agitated.  The opposite to what you want occurs because you are not listening to your inner self.  So you don’t go to bed until you are tired.  If you find it hard to sleep, get up, don’t just lie there and sit on the most uncomfortable piece of furniture you have, then the mind thinks “o the bed is much more comfortable – I’m ready to sleep”.

I always tell my clients that I am better than a sleeping tablet – within 3 or 4 nights of listening to my CD, as soon as they hear my voice, they fall asleep and get a good quality sleep.  Remember it is the quality not the quantity of sleep that is important.
