Some people can go through surgery without any anaesthetic, some can stem the flow of blood from a cut. How did they do this? With the power of their minds to focus and direct how things should be. With pain comes fear, we tense up the muscles and when we tighten up we are more aware of our pain.
For pain that has no traumatic origin which we have all experienced in some form whether it is neck pain or back pain, it could be a message from your subconscious that some stress needs to addressed. The mind is an amazing place. It will send you messages that you need a better way of handling someone or some situation but if you do not heed the emotional message, the subconscious mind will send you a physical manifestation of the anxiety, the stress to try to grab your attention. If the issue is not resolved, then the pain becomes more chronic.
Think of the expression “he’s a pain in the neck”. This is not a random saying. The person gives you a physical discomfort. Now as we can only change ourselves and our response then it makes sense to work on ways not to affected and this is where hypnosis is useful. Our subconscious mind works faster than the conscious mind and it makes sense that positive work should be done at this level. This is achieved by a guided relaxation (hypnosis). We focus on typical events or people who cause you discomfort and make adjustments to make you calm and relaxed before they arise. In a short space of time your pain dissipates or is at an acceptable level.
Pain management with hypnosis has a role to play with broken limbs or headaches but not to alleviate the pain only to bring it to a tolerable level so that persistent headaches can be medically assessed or in the case of broken limbs that you do not do more damage by over-exerting yourself.
