Hypnosis

Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy
What’s the difference?

Hypnosis is a state of extreme relaxation which can facilitate change in your subconscious mind by giving suggestions on new behaviours or new ways of dealing with situations. Hypnosis is a trance like state and everyone has the ability to enter into a trance. Everyday, people slip into a natural trance state when they become absorbed in watching television, or reading a book, using computers or even driving.

Hypnotherapy is psychotherapy, a treatment for emotional problems which uses hypnosis to help people. It works by guiding the client into a state of relaxation that then gives access to the subconscious mind.

The Therapies

There are two types of therapy:

  1. Suggestion Therapy Which is used for simpler problems such as smoking cessation, nail-biting, pre-test nerves etc and usually requires 1 - 3 sessions with a solution focused hypnotherapy CD for use at home to re-enforce the work done in the clinic.
  2. Analytical Therapy This is used to discover the causes of the psychological problems and of course one can mix the two therapies. Hypnotherapy can be summarized briefly as the doctrine of cause and effect - every effect (symptom) must have a cause. Hypno-analysis reveals and thus removes the cause thereby relieving the symptoms. This analysis requires 8 - 10 sessions.
