Hypnosis and NLP techniques can help in many ways to help you to overcome and stop your fear of flying (aviophobia). While the fear of flying can sometimes have nothing to do with planes, the main issue behind the fear of flying is the loss of control. You can’t see what the driver (pilot) is doing, if there is a problem and the only feedback you can get is from the air cabin crew. You probably find that you also hyperfocus on the different sounds that you hear and actually look for faults. Think of flying like driving (and remember flying is safer than driving, it is just that the media choose to sensationalise any flying mishaps that do occur without acknowleding all the thousands of planes that took off and landed safely!). When driving you have to adjust your driving pattern to multiple factors – weather conditions and road maintenance but do you physically check your car before each journey you take – do you check under the bonnet, check the tyres, check the lights are all working. Chances are that you do not but the pilot does and the aircraft maintenance crew check every plane. If the weather is particularly windy then the pilot must adjust the plane to take the easiest course – like you would avoid pot-holes. Acceleration and decleration on the plane will occur just like you would change your car gears. With hypnosis, you are learning to relax to various sounds and calm the inner you rather than reacting to “what if” because your body doesn’t know what is real or imagined and your body will respond as though there is actually a problem. If you would like to travel with your family or work demands you fly, why not book in for a session. It just takes one session to overcome your fear of flying. Imagine that in just one session you could be a different person flying, a positive, relaxed person.
