What hypnotherapists do

Hypnotherapists do not “rescue” you from whatever problem you  have whether it is anxiety, smoking, nail biting etc.  Your hypnotherapist helps you  to discover or learn more resourceful ways of thinking, behaving, acting, responding so that you are empowered.  It is only with finding these resources from within will you ever truly overcome your problem.

So whatever emotional upset or habit you want to break, let me be your guide and call me on 086 1038892 now.

Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is therapy carried out under hypnosis which essentially allows you to make change very quickly. The focus is the one change you wish to make in your life and a short, concise and focused therapy to help you build your self reliance. You gain the opportunity to harness the new and re-ignited skills within yourself in the future. It is about raising your self belief that you can be stop smoking, lose weight, get the great job you want, have a family, find a partner, overcome depression and anxiety, stop blushing or whatever change you wish to make.

You must want to make the change and believe that change for you is possible - you don’t have to believe in the process but be open minded. Expect positive change and look forward to positive change! Take a moment right now to write down goals for each area of your life - let’s face it, if you were content as you are now you wouldn’t be reading this. Write down the categories - lifestyle, health, family, relationships, financial, educational - whatever areas are in your life. Then list the goals or aspirations you have in each category. Now the most important is to timeline them so you see at a glance what the most pressing issue is for you. Hypnosis is great to help clarify our thoughts and organize the areas in your life.

Then set out the tasks you need to take to make each goal a reality - do you have to connect with someone, do you have do a course, do you have _________? Again set out a to-do list with these. Remember the day is not over until you can tick off everything on your life. Life being life, no doubt you may be thrown a curve ball but re-arrange the timeline - it’s not set in stone but don’t let things slide because of laziness.

Shyness and Hypnosis

I read in Dublin’s Metro newspaper that the Oxytocin, a hormone that women produce in labour, is being seen as a salvation for those suffering from shyness.  While it therapy it sounds better than self medicating with alchohol and its disastrous effects, wouldn’t it be better to learn how to control the symptoms from inside instead of relying on something external.  The problem comes from inside and hypnotherapy can help you regain control of the symptoms which to now have been controlling and dominating one’s life in the form of chronic shyness, blushing, sweating profusely, nervousness, shaking.  Imagine the empowerment it would give you by reprogramming your mind, as you would your computer, to manage shyness, learning to even overcome.  Hypnotherapy helps you to uncover the reason for your shyness and then we look to your future as being confident and happy.  By using hypnotherapy which is solution focused a short sharp course (no more than 10 - 12 sessions) can release you from the shyness you experience.

Exercise:  Please read through first.

  • Close your eyes for a few moments;
  • Imagine what life would be like for you to feel comfortable in a group situation whether it is with friends or strangers or both.
  • Add as much detail as possible - hear the sounds, smell the smells and see the pictures.  Add movement - make it as though you are watching a movie/video.
  • You are feeling comfortable, your hands are dry, your stomach is at ease, your heart beats at a normal rhythm, your face is pale.  Feels good, doesn’t it?
  • You are enjoying yourself, feeling comfortable and relaxed.
  • Notice where in your body you feel this good feeling - is it your head, your chest, your stomach (there is no right or wrong answer) and give it a shape and colour.  Make it bigger and brighter so it fills your whole body.  Feeling wonderful.
  • Now open your eyes.
  • How great are your feeling right now and you did this by yourself.

Using hypnotherapy you can learn relaxation techniques and practice visualisation exercises.  The therapy part helps to recall the times when you “learned” to be shy and withdrawing from groups.  Then I help you to re-learn a new way of behaving.

So to overcome shyness and gain confidence and be comfortable in yourself, think about hypnotherapy and the results will speak for themselves.

A tip for brightening someone’s day.

Like attracts like, feel positive and full of life and this has a domino effect on those around you. Unfortunately, the opposite is also true. So for the next few days, when you answer the phone, do so with a smile - this has the immediate effect of softening your tone (have you ever tried to be cross with a smile - it doesn’t work) and make someone’s day.

Top Tips for Assertiveness with Children

q Your children are not out to “get” you;

q They are designed to rebel and assert their independence;

q Accept that they are noisy, messy, a fulltime job and need constant attention;

q Instead of getting angry or trying to reason with children, tell them how you feel, use phrases like “I think…” “I feel…” “I want…”;

q See the situation from their point of view – “it’s mom’s job to clean my room”;

q You only upset yourself when you get angry and frustrated and the job still won’t be done.
