			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1529" title="standing on chair afraid" src="http://zitastanley.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/standing-on-chair-afraid.gif" alt="" width="61" height="116" />How does hypnosis help to you relieve the anxiety of stammering?  For adults and children alike, stammering can have detrimental effects on self esteem and confidence.  Problems will be with certain letters and try as you might to avoid them, you will at some time have to use the words.  Avoidence is not a solution and will actually add to the anxiety when you do have finally use the word.  Hypnosis can help to get rid of the fear associated with speaking in front of others.</p>
<p>Hypnosis works by concentrating on the problem letters and find a solution.  Did you know that sufferers do not stammer while in hypnosis?  It is because they are in a relaxed state.  Anxiety and panic and &#8220;seeing&#8221; the difficulty with the word make life difficult.  Blushing will become part of the panic.  So, now you are dealing with the stammering, panic and blushing!</p>
<p>The most wonderful &#8220;side effect&#8221; of hypnosis is the relaxation element.  The subconscious mind is being programmed to be in a relaxed and calm state while using the problem letters.  What I like to do with clients is to make a sentence with the words beginning with the problem letters (if it is the start of words that causes the problem).  The client repeats the statement over and over easily and gently &#8211; the purpose is a confidence boost from saying the words with problem letters and most importantly a signal to the subconscious mind &#8211; being relaxed with the letters.  Efforts are made a word pacing &#8211; the desire to &#8220;get the words over with&#8221; may trigger you to talk very fast.  Whether excited or anxious, the focus is on speaking clearly and easily with a confident delivery.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>When you develop a phobia, anxiety has attached itself to the fear and this fear takes on a new life and becomes conditioned by association so any e.g. dog or plane will set off a series of stress responses in your body and you only see to see them in the distance! When you start to avoid the perceived &#8220;trigger&#8221; then a phobia develops.  So when you avoid the situation or &#8220;trigger&#8221;, your mind is rewarded by the anxiety going and your avoidance strengthens this connection in your mind.  With hypnosis and NLP (neuro linguistic programming, we are doing the same thing but creating the positive opposite so that when confronted with what used to be your trigger you are calm and relaxed &#8211; sometimes fears and phobias have very little to do with the plane, the elevator etc. it is what it represents &#8211; loss of control, fear of failure etc.  But developing new ways of behaving and stopping the negative self talk, you develop confidence from empowering yourself and no longer being controlled and limited in your life.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Trying to change something about yourself is never easy.  The desire for a continued habit and routine is very powerful and some schools of thought suggest that it is more powerful than the survival instinct that each of us possesses.  So armed with that information, in the past you may recognise how you self sabotaged any attempts to stop smoking, weight reduction, overcome fears and anxiety, blushing, confidence building.  With hypnosis and NLP (neuro linguistic programming) we are re-programming the mind so that the desire and benefit of the positive change far outweighs what you are receiving now from the habit.  That is how hypnosis and NLP work in conjunction with your imagination and desire for the change.  If you truly do not want to change, then nothing is going to make the change you make stick.  The function of NLP is that we create new neural pathways (new ways of re-wiring the brain to promote new thinking and therefore, your reaction changes to one more positive) but it is done by creating a new you that is excited about living with the new, positive change and the knock-on effect this has in your life and those in it.</p>
<p>You can be anything or any way you choose to be, you make the choice.  Hypnosis and NLP are tools to enable to make the change and make it stick.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Anxiety is the anticipation of something happening &#8211; your mind is picturing and making assumptions about what could happen.  Fear is the body&#8217;s response to a stimulus &#8211; to enable the body to fight or run away.  It is about self preservation.  But if anxiety becomes attached to a fear then the fear takes on its own life and in this case, fears and phobias are born.  With hypnosis, by accessing the subconscious mind, we can desensitize the fear by lowering and removing the anxiety attached to it.  Anxiety is driving the fear.  It is about the anticipation or dread of something bad happening.  The beauty of hypnosis is that you are naturally reducing anxiety symptoms of racing heart, sweating, dry mouth, clamminess.  You are in effect learning to be calm and relaxed.  By reducing the anxiety attached to say a fear of dogs, then the fear that was born by one dog and then became a fear of all dogs, goes back to its proper place in your mind &#8211; as just a bad experience and be saved in your mind as such.  With hypnotherapy we are reframing the experience that caused your fear to develop.  </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>During an session with me, one of the checks that must be done is what is called an &#8220;ecological check&#8221;.  You want to change some habit whether it is stop smoking, stop over-eating, lose weight, stop biting nails, overcome fear etc.  But are the people in your life ready for you to change.  Have you noticed that if lose weight some friends will feel threatened by it to the point of telling you that you look ill or &#8220;encourage&#8221; you to have more cake.  Or for the smoker, trying to tempt you with cigarettes by blowing smoke in your face or leaving you out of conversations.  This is something you need to think about and how you feel now that your position within your group changes.  Although not everyone will welcome the change, others will delight in your success.  You need to ensure that you are strong enough to deal with the &#8220;downside&#8221; of your positive change.  This is peer pressure even in your 30s and 40s.  You have dared to be different, to stand up and make a change. </p>
<p>Be strong and brave.  There&#8217;s a new world out there for a new you.  Awareness that not everyone will be delighted with the change will give you strength.  You will be tested but you will be strong and delight in your resolve to continue and maintain your change. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Halloween conjures up our fears and phobias.  Have you noticed how eerie it can be at night &#8211; a &#8220;lonely&#8221; night or a night that would be ideal for a horror movie!  Have you noticed how the best horror movies feast on your imagination, it&#8217;s so dark you can&#8217;t see anything but the music and atmosphere it creates like footsteps following the future victim and you can feel your heart racing and feeling the fear &#8211; all the build up from your imagination.</p>
<p>What is fear?  Fear is <strong>F</strong>alse <strong>E</strong>xpectations <strong>A</strong>ppearing <strong>R</strong>eal.  It is the unknown rather than the reality that frightens.</p>
<p>With hypnosis you can learn to overcome your fear whether it is the dentist, flying, dogs, water.  Sometimes the fear is not what you identify like flying etc but is the &#8220;unknown&#8221; element.  This I like to call the &#8220;what if&#8221; and that can be where the fear grows strongest because your imagination fuels it and the worse the scenario the more your heart races, the whole stress cycle is active in your body.  When this happens the heart is working overtime and this increases the blood pressure in the body.  But for some people, the heart can&#8217;t push enough blood through fast enough and when blood pressure drops suddenly fainting will occur.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>You know that you can have insight and be logical about your problem but it doesn&#8217;t seem to make any difference to the blushing, anxiety, stress with attempts to stop smoking, lose weight etc.  Why?  Because we reason with the logical part of the mind and the hurt that prompted the problem in the first place is in your subconscious mind!  The only way to access your subconscious mind is with the use of hypnosis.  Hypnosis is a deep relaxation where you are fully aware but are just so relaxed you keep you eyes closed.  When in this relaxed state, the conscious mind drifts and you are fully aware but just more interested in what is going on inside you.  This can help you to overcome your problem &#8211; we find the cause and make it lose its effect!  For suggestion therapy, for stop smoking, wart removal or any of the more habit problems, when you are relaxed, suggestions are offered to the subconscious about new ways of looking at what used to be a problem for you.</p>
<p>Only your subconscious mind knows what caused the problem in the first place and only your subconscious mind can make the change.  But it is not a magic pill or cure.  It is about empowering you.  Internal acceptance and validation help you to become the person you really want to be.  There is no dependant relationship with me.  Solution focused therapy is the method I use so that you are in therapy for the shortest time possible maximum 12 weeks.  That is because we start with your goal and work towards it whether it is to feel relaxed in social situations, relaxed being a non smoker, more confident and assertive &#8211; with hypnosis you can your own magic happen and it is a tool for life.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Whatever change you want to make, you need some form of motivation or otherwise you would not change.  Make change is never easy whether it is to stop smoking, lose weight, get focused on the job you want, motivation to set up your own business, gain confidence you will need some help.  Hypnosis is such a focused tool at your disposal to give you laser focus on what you want.  Hypnosis helps to concentrate your mind on that one change.  Remember, you can only work on one change at a time (that&#8217;s why New Year Resolutions fail &#8211; we try too many changes and achieve nothing).  Listening to a hypnotic CD/MP3 reminds your subconscious mind that you want to change.  The theory is to make change permanent it takes 21 days for it to be fully absorbed by the subconscious mind.</p>
