How many times have you got the “o my God” gut wrenching feeling when you hear about a meeting or presentation and you have to be the one who talks? Or perhaps you are in a queue to talk – your mind is just focused and when it’s your turn, you don’t even hear what is being said, just feeling your heart pumping out of your chest, your mouth dry, feeling shaky…..then it’s your turn and you talk so fast just to get it over with? Does it make you feel good? Perhaps your shakes continues as the excess adrenaline tries to find its way out of your body.
There is another way – how many times have you noticed someone “I wish I was like them” – they look confident and poised. You are engaged by them. With hypnosis (for the relaxation) and NLP (for the creativity and visualisation) you can control your heart rate, your posture. You can learn to be like this other person. You are interrupting the stress response in the body. With hypnosis we look for when your trigger occurs – is it on hearing about the presentation, is it while you are waiting, is it just as you open your mouth to speak? We also look for the sign you need to know that everything is okay – is it when the first few words come out strong, is it the way you keep your body in control. With stress/panic, the initial feeling is of lack of control, you feel overwhelmed but you can learn to control these feelings for you. To recognise the butterflies in your stomach as excitement rather than fear. To be able to see things from your “audience” perspective. To be able to relax talking in front of others with your mind clear and able to respond to any questions because now you are listening and concentrating on the person asking the question. In this way you give the best of yourself and grow in confidence at your new found ability to talk freely and at ease.

Hypnotherapy and NLP (neuro linguistic programming) can help you to develop healthier thoughts about being confident. When you are relaxed the brain function is in the Alpha waves (this is the creative part of the brain) and NLP is used as part of the process is seeing you as you want to be – what do you look like physically and what this would feel like. We also look at the negative thoughts that are running inside your head – what is their reason for being. All feelings have a positive intent. Your subconscious mind wants to do right by you but sometimes the information it has needs to be reviewed and updated. Like you would do with your computer, you are updating the information. Hypnosis helps you at a deeper level and therefore sustains feelings of wellbeing and ease. Hypnosis is a concentrated relaxation. Your concentration and focus is on what being confident means to you. If you are very quiet by nature, then it is not about becoming Donald Trump! But it is about bringing about the best that you can be. How do you react when you hear about a meeting? With dread, anxiety – with your thoughts trying to figure out an escape route! Is this in your best interest in the long-term – if you want to develop your career and progress, then you need to be seen and heard and in a positive way. Using NLP and hypnosis, you can become the person who speaks up and is not afraid to express their opinion, be a ease with colleagues, no matter how senior they are. If you feel hypnosis and NLP can help you, call me on 086 1038892 or email
What does confidence mean to you? How do you know someone is confident without even talking to them? As children develop, they learn by copying/mirroring what their significant adults do. So too as an adult you can use this to your advantage. Imagine someone real or from tv that looks confident to you (this is the neurolinguistic programming part) - a confidence you can relate to. See them in their setting and notice how others respond to them. Look at the subject – how do they stand, hold themselves, express themselves. Remember what actually comes out of your mouth only accounts for 7% of communication! So if your posture and voice are not congruent, others will pick up on this. Now step into the subject’s body and see the world through the eyes, move around, be them – it’s like trying on clothes – check the fit. You are that person. How do you feel? How do you feel about the people around you. Feel the connection between “you” and the group. Feels good? Doesn’t it. Now go back into yourself bringing back those good feelings. How do you feel now? What has changed – there is a shift in pattern now. You can feel it. Practice this for a few minutes every day and notice how subtle the changes are but you know it’s working by how others interact with you. Hypnosis and NLP can help to develop this feeling. Visualisation techniques are important in confidence – seeing and believing that you are strong and confident and able to handle any situation that arises in a competent manner as the mind does not know the difference between what is real or imaged, this works to your advantage.
Hypnosis is about learning how to quieten the conscious mind and body, not to force sleep but develop a routine at night-time about letting the muscles relax. In this way, you will be amazed at how easy it will be for you just to drift off to sleep. Small steps to reach the ultimate goal of slumber. But unlike other books and strategies about a 4 week or 6 week course, you can be asleep within 4 to 6 nights! How would this feel to have some quality, refreshing sleep. Part of the strategy is check what is causing this inability to sleep. Sometimes it is obvious what has the caused this inability to sleep through the night. Other times we need to dig deeper! Initially the return to sleep is good grouping of restful sleep where you wake and you feel rested and good. This leads in time to a full night’s sleep. If you are suffering with insomnia and wish to find a way to return to a full night’s sleep, call or email me at
If you are already attending a fertility clinic and starting your journey with IVF or any other assisted methods, hypnosis still has a role to play. Hypnosis in itself is a relaxation and this has many benefits in your body’s preparation for IVF. Visualisation techniques can help you to see yourself being calm and relaxed as medical staff do their job. You are better able to deal emotionally with the side effects of the medication to stimulate your ovaries and your recovery after egg retrieval is better as some women experience pain and bruising afterwards.
Hypnotherapy as a treatment for insomnia:
Fear of flying in my experience has very little to do with planes and flying – it can be the fear of loss of control or indeed, allowing your fears and anxiety about something else funnel into flying because it is not something that is done regularly. In working with me, you are learning how to control your anxiety with regard to flying. All hypnosis is self hypnosis – I am just your tour guide to the working of your mind and how by creating the right set of circumstances you make any change you want. Hypnosis is a guided relaxation so that you can access the power of your subconscious where you can make the changes you want to make.
Hypnosis to stop smoking creates a “want” to stop smoking, no “have to” or “need” but a desire to successfully quit smoking. We will always do what we want to do, not what we need to do. Need suggests an outside pressure but want is an internal desire to be free from cigarettes.
Using hypnotherapy to lose weight is more than just reaching your ideal weight/dress size. How many diets have you been on? And more importantly, how much weight have you gained after each diet?
