Social Anxiety and Hypnosis

With social anxiety (or any anxiety) all your thoughts are directed inwards so that you lose awareness of what is actually happening and going on around it.  Time seems to slow down and perhaps you may feel everything is exaggerated.  You want to feel “safe”, to distance yourself physically, avoiding eye contact, trying to disappear but the problem is that your safety measures actually draw attention to you – not the initial phase of the anxiety that no-one is aware of.  When placed in a similar situations, your safety mechanisms serve to increase the anxiety as your anticipation of what can go wrong develops.  How can I help you with hypnosis and hypnotherapy.  Hypnosis is a relaxation and hypnotherapy is therapy using the relaxation to access the subconscious mind.  Remember your subconscious mind is 1/2 second faster than the conscious mind.  With hypnotherapy you are learning to adjust your thoughts and feelings as soon as you are aware of them to prevent them from developing.  What I help you to do is (a) acknowledge the panic – fighting it gives it power, (b) direct your thoughts outwards – see the situation for how it really is, not your imagined view and (c) everyone else is caught up in their own cycle of positive and negative thoughts.  All the while we are looking for the cause of your discomfort.  Find the cause and we reduce its effect.  The problem is at a subconscious level and it makes sense that the subconscious must be involved in your recovery.  If you want to discover how to overcome social anxiety and enjoy your life then call me on 086 1038892.  Appointments in Baggot Street, Dublin 2.  Email: zita@zitastanley.com
