Fighting your symptoms of panic and anxiety actually increases the intensity of the feelings. With hypnosis you can learn how to relax and little tricks to fool the body into believing it is in a relaxed state. Tips include:
1. Learning to breathe deeply (from your stomach rather than shallow breathing).
2. Feel the feelings – “I know I am feeling symptoms of anxiety”. Acknowledge them. Now think “I am calm and relaxed, calm and relaxed”. Like a surfer who lets the wave carry him so you are riding the wave of the symptoms – it will peak but then drop. Positive thoughts like “calm and relaxed” are ideal to reduce and bring down your “wave” of anxiety.
3. Focus on what you want to feel, not on what you don’t want. Take it symptom and think about the opposite – for example, clammy hands – “my hands are dry”, heart racing – “my heart is beating at a normal rhythm”. You are instructing your subconscious mind on what you want.
Final thought: Remember you have years of conditioning you into a panic state and to feel fear. Be realistic in your expectations. It takes practice.
