It is interesting how the body and mind connection works. Just by your anticipation whether positive or negative, you can set in motion a sequence of physiological signs that determine your physical state. How many times have you said to yourself – “I knew I was going to blush, I just knew it” and then continue to berate yourself with negative self talk? When having to present yourself in front of a group of people either socially or professionally – how many times have you thought “oh no, I just know I’m going to blush”.
So how can hypnosis help you overcome the redness/blushing? Hypnosis can help you to relax into situations that previously caused you distress. So thinking that you are going to be calm and relaxed and you face is pale and cool sets off a different chain of physiological signs that are for your benefit. Why? Because you have instructed your subconscious mind by telling it what you want. When you get a sense of dread – that sends signals to subconscious mind and as it is a learned response, it does as expected and your face is red with heat.
It does take practice. To overcome blushing (hypnosis cannot claim to cure), you need to plan your new responses to blushing provoking situations. How do you want to feel? How do you want to behave physically and emotionally? Start your answers with: “I want to be…” “I want to feel…” – there is no “I don’t want…” – Tell yourself what you do want. How are you standing, what is your facial expression? All these are important because they give life to the “new, improved” you. Remember, to learn blushing you had to experience some emotionally upsetting trauma or incident that was profound to penetrate your subconscious mind. Now, we are giving suggestions and putting in a picture of how you want to be because it is for your benefit to have a pale and cool face.
