Today’s blog concentrates on why you continue to smoke. We all know that smoking is bad for you, the ill effects etc etc - yet you continue to smoke. Why? Because logically you know you shouldn’t but because the habit of smoking is controlled at a subconscious level only you subconscious mind can relinquish the control. Hypnosis in itself is a relaxation and when relaxed your subconscious mind is ready and open to new suggestions as long as they can a “reward” or “benefit” that is more exciting than what cigarettes gave it.
Most people would have started smoking in early teens. No-one has yet enjoyed their first puff of a cigarette but yet you persevered. Why? Because in your teens it is important to belong to your peer group, to be like everyone else is a primary need so your subconscious mind “learns” to smoke because your need to belong is very strong and so you smoke. Now in your late 20s and 30s, the need to belong to peer groups is less significant (at least it should be!) but your subconscious mind does not know that the rules have changed so with hypnosis you can instruct the change that being smokefree gives you a feeling of, say, confidence which is much stronger than the need to belong and so your subconscious mind will accept that confidence is now a higher need than belonging to a peer group. And this is the way it works - it is essentially re-programming how smoking fits into your life.
