Stop/Quit Smoking and Hypnosis

What if you could wake up fresh and full of energy, you bounce out of bed, do your ablutions, have breakfast, get into your car, drive to work, be productive at work, take regular breaks, drive home, have dinner, spend quality time with loved ones or doing activities - with no sign of a cigarette.  Is this vision too hard to digest or do you think, “sounds great but it’s really hard to quit the cigarettes”?  Hypnosis can help to gain all the good feelings you feel (misplaced) when you smoked and you have these skills to help your self in the future with other habits.  Hypnosis and hypnotherapy to stop smoking should not be viewed as “something that’s done to me”.  YOU are learning and re-training your subconscious that cigarettes and smoking are no longer part of your life.  My job as a hypnotherapist to show you how to access “the feel good factor” that is within you.  Do you know why you think you relax when you smoke?  Because it is the first deep breath if you have probably taken.  Imagine now if you feel the great effects of this deep breathing without the stink of cigarettes.  Most of us do not breath properly - to relax you must focus on your breathing, do a mental count of 3 and then release the breath gently.  No will power is required.  The habit of smoking is in your subconscious mind so only your subconscious mind can release you from the habit.  What other benefits do you think you gain by smoking?  Confidence.  Well, smokers do seem to congregate, it’s a connection, a link, it takes “the bare look off you”.  Let’s build your confidence.  Your image improves.  All using hypnosis.  There is not one aspect of the apparent benefit of smoking that we cannot recreate in a more productive way.  And it’s the power of your own mind that you are saying NO to the control that a little white stick had on you.

Smoking is like alcohol or drugs (prescription and recreational), you are using something external to make changes within yourself - whether it is to relax (which it doesn’t), whether it is to feel confident (which it doesn’t), to stop eating (why do you substitute one oral habit with another) etc.  You are self medicating to deal with some issue and hypnosis and hypnotherapy are the most effective tools you can possess in order to deal and overcome the issue inside.  If you suffer from within, doesn’t it make sense that the solution must come from within to solve it?

Believe you can be free of cigarettes and you can achieve this.

Confidence Blushing Anxiety and Hypnosis

What does confidence mean to you? Have you ever really studied someone you knew to be confident. Remember when you were little, you wore your parent’s shoes and affected their mannerisms. That’s how we learn how to behave. Look at animals - they practice what the mother does and follow suit. So if you want to be confident, with the help of hypnosis, study how a confident person behaves - how do that stand, look at their face, look at their shoulders. Hypnosis will help you to relax your body and with the aid of visualisation techniques you can see yourself behaving as a confident person. Then the next step is to feel the confidence inside you so that empowers you to truly believe you can become the confident person you want to be without blushing, without anxiety. Hypnosis can help you with your blushing learning how to control the symptoms so they no longer control you and controlling the anxiety, that knot in your stomach, palpitations, throat closing in etc. All of these symptoms affect your confidence so dealing with them will help you achieve the confidence that you want and need in everyday life.

Blushing Confidence and Hypnosis

Which came first - the blushing or the lack of confidence? Do you remember a time when you were less than confident but did not blush or did you blush and then because you were aware of the blushing, began to lose confidence? You may not know or have even thought about it. It’s worth taking a few minutes to separate the two. Think about some event in which you blushed, did your blushing come on suddenly or where you feeling some nervousness etc. Hypnosis is a marvellous tool to help you control the symptoms of blushing - the redness, the heat, the palpitations, clammy hands, clear mind to focus on what you need to focus on. What would that mean to you - what difference would it make to you - what opportunities would open up. Remember blushing is not associated with confidence so you want to make your mark then you need to start thinking and acting like a confident person. Getting control of the symptoms of blushing is the first step. If you can believe there is a life without blushing for you, then you can achieve. The reason for your blushing (usually but not always from childhood being made of fun off with all the focus on you) is stored in your subconscious and only by accessing your subconscious mind can you make effective change.

You have the power within yourself, with hypnosis I can help access and harness this power to help into your future and change your life forever!

Self Help and Hypnosis

When you are feeling unsure of yourself and negative thoughts are roaming around your mind - do they have a voice? (And I don’t mind auditory hallucinations). Turn up the volume and listen closely - is your voice but not your words, do you recognise the voice? No doubt if you recognise the voice it will be a significant adult from when you were a child, an overcritical parent, a frightening teacher or whoever. Childhood and around the age 6/7 we “learn” to feel bad about ourselves. At school everything must be uniform i.e. the same - don’t stand out, dress the same as everyone, do this now, do it this way. We learn that some will be better than others at different tasks - compare and see how you are? Negative comments about underperforming in school. Children learn in different ways and at different speeds. What messages did you receive about you?

Do you remember waiting anxiously for the school report in the summer? How would your parents react? Tension and anxiousness and from what age? - 9/10/11 earlier?

This is why we “learn” to dread/fear performance situations whether it is addressing a group at work, going for interview, meeting someone new - we bring all the tensions and anxieties about performance received as a child and we are in reality reverting to that scared little child, waiting for the approval/disapproval of the “adult”.

What was learned can be re-learned to a more productive way of behaving. Self help and hypnotherapy can help you undo this damage but only if you really want to. Some people may be happy to continue living in their comfort zone while logically “trying” to change themselves. These people are going through the motions because there is a contentment in knowing and staying where you are now. Change is fear but necessary fear to move forward to no longer stay in a quagmire but really to embrace change and changing fear to excitement because you can do that. Anxiety and excitement have the same root it just depends on which route you take.

Self Help with Hypnosis

Any self help that uses hypnosis is going to be more successful. Why? Because you must tackle the underlying issues and they are usually anxiety based or a fear that stops you from being the best you can be. Hypnotherapy is therapy using hypnosis to help you make changes a change at a subconscious level. This is where the problem started and as one could, you must “return to the scene of crime”. This return is to help you let go, release unresolved upset, even guilt. Then you rebuild and look forward knowing that the past no longer has a hold over you. All hypnosis is self hypnosis and as such you are learning a valuable self help tool to aid you in making other changes in your life. Some might say that “self help” is an oxymoron if you are actually seeing a therapist, reading books, going on self improvement courses. Any help that helps your inner self is of benefit but as long as you gaining benefit. We can be logical about the way the negative way we behave and have what psychiatrists term “insight” i.e. a good understanding but this does not solve the problem or deal with the symptoms you fee. Why not? Because the hurt to the inner self did not happen on a logical basis - if it did we would not have any problems.

Self help is about healing, letting go of negativity, release guilt. What is the underlying symptom you feel? This can take a little while to untangle as over the years you have added to it. With hypnotherapy we must have a focus - a solution to work towards. One change at a time is necessary and important because the subconscious mind can only deal with one change at a time. Take the time to explore hypnosis to see how it can help with your self help actions.

Stress, Sleep and Hypnosis

When you are stressed what is one of the first things affected? It’s your sleep. Sleep allows your subconscious mind to work through any issues that have been bothering - it is a natural filter and can help you to come up with solutions. Have you ever gone to bed worried about something and the next morning, it doesn’t seem quite so bad - that’s your subconscious mind unravelling the problem to come up with a solution or at least give you perspective on it. When your body is stressed mentally and physically, there is so much for the subconscious mind to do that you end up more exhausted. Sleep is supposed to refresh you and give you a good, energetic start to the day. So what happens if you wake and want more sleep and then you feel resentful of the job you have to go to, the work that is making you get up. Or even for parents of a new baby - resentful of the change in your routine. When extreme tiredness hits, you must take note - the subconscious mind is begging you to address the stress.

Did you know that we sleep in 3 hour cycles? All you need is a minimum of 3 hours of sleep to recharge.

From my clinical experience, the first thing that clients notice when they see me for stress management, is how their sleep improves in the first week of listening to my CD. And it’s a good quality sleep. It’s not the quantity but the quality that counts. When you wake up refreshed in the morning, you feel you can take on the world, this clear head gives you perspective and allows the goal setting parts of the brain to become creative. Okay, so your job is not what you expected - instead of spirally into unhappiness (and remember this affects all those around you at home and at work) - how can you improve your situation? If it is not your heart’s desire are you willing to stick with it while you build on what you really want?

We need sleep to function at the highest level so we give the best of ourselves whether it is at home or work. Good quality sleep is a side effect of a hypnotic CD - I am more effective than a sleeping tablet because you wake up with energy and a vibrancy that is lacking when you are stressed.

Shyness and Hypnosis

I read in Dublin’s Metro newspaper that the Oxytocin, a hormone that women produce in labour, is being seen as a salvation for those suffering from shyness.  While it therapy it sounds better than self medicating with alchohol and its disastrous effects, wouldn’t it be better to learn how to control the symptoms from inside instead of relying on something external.  The problem comes from inside and hypnotherapy can help you regain control of the symptoms which to now have been controlling and dominating one’s life in the form of chronic shyness, blushing, sweating profusely, nervousness, shaking.  Imagine the empowerment it would give you by reprogramming your mind, as you would your computer, to manage shyness, learning to even overcome.  Hypnotherapy helps you to uncover the reason for your shyness and then we look to your future as being confident and happy.  By using hypnotherapy which is solution focused a short sharp course (no more than 10 - 12 sessions) can release you from the shyness you experience.

Exercise:  Please read through first.

  • Close your eyes for a few moments;
  • Imagine what life would be like for you to feel comfortable in a group situation whether it is with friends or strangers or both.
  • Add as much detail as possible - hear the sounds, smell the smells and see the pictures.  Add movement - make it as though you are watching a movie/video.
  • You are feeling comfortable, your hands are dry, your stomach is at ease, your heart beats at a normal rhythm, your face is pale.  Feels good, doesn’t it?
  • You are enjoying yourself, feeling comfortable and relaxed.
  • Notice where in your body you feel this good feeling - is it your head, your chest, your stomach (there is no right or wrong answer) and give it a shape and colour.  Make it bigger and brighter so it fills your whole body.  Feeling wonderful.
  • Now open your eyes.
  • How great are your feeling right now and you did this by yourself.

Using hypnotherapy you can learn relaxation techniques and practice visualisation exercises.  The therapy part helps to recall the times when you “learned” to be shy and withdrawing from groups.  Then I help you to re-learn a new way of behaving.

So to overcome shyness and gain confidence and be comfortable in yourself, think about hypnotherapy and the results will speak for themselves.

Depression and Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy

Can hypnosis help depression? Well, it helps if you know why you are depressed. Are you depressed because life has not worked out like you expected and you are frustrated that you haven’t achieved what you wanted? Perhaps you have always been depressed or an element of depression. With hypnotherapy (therapy carried out using hypnosis) you must have a idea of what you want to achieve. Many of us know what we don’t want but how many know what exactly we do want. If your mind has been enveloped with negativity, it can be difficult to see any light. Positivity and looking forward take a great deal of work. Any good hypnotherapist will ensure that your plan for the future is well formed form, that it is possible for you to achieve the little steps that grow to big steps. It is like any plan, it must be SMART – specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time specific. Like anything worth having, it is a journey and if you are sure that the life you lead now is not the way you wish to continue then look at hypnotherapy. As a psychotherapist and hypnotherapist, you get the benefit of my experience in ensuring that you stay on track. We take one aspect that is the most bothersome and work on this. This in turn has a knock on positive effect in other areas of your life. Isn’t it worth the effort, to make positive changes in your life?

Self Esteem and Hypnotherapy

As a child we receive a lot of external messages about how we are perceived, a baby learns to cry (and different cries) depending on whether they need changing, feeding or comfort. So as we grow and develop understanding we look to the adults around us to tell how we are perceived. If this is negative - that you are not good enough or your stupid or you’ll never amount to anything - what picture of yourself do you think you have? Does this mean it’s true? Consider the source of information? Now that you are an adult, can you see how the information gained about yourself from the outside world may have been flawed? Did you live up to (or down to) the expectations? As you are reading this, I suspect you want to change - why because you are querying the validity of the information.

Low self esteem is about having little internal value. Only trusting the negative imagines sent your way. How many times have you accepted a criticism as being true but dismiss a positive, for example, doing a good job.

I will be doing a series of posts on self esteem over the next few days. There is a lot to take in and so I want to break it up to ease digestion.

I always assume the reader is looking to make a change. Hypnotherapy can help facilitate the change. In a nutshell, we can quickly access the subconscious mind where all the memories that condensed to make you feel the way you do are stored. Only your subconscious mind had help you develop a more positive attitude and belief in yourself. The beauty of hypnosis and hypnotherapy is that it is a short course of therapy using hypnosis (no more than 10 weeks) is all that is needed to set you up for a different path in life. No matter how many negative images we receive, I hope that you can believe that someone somewhere showed you some positive attention but you dismissed and believe that no-one ever saw potential in you.

I would like to end on this note: you must realise that your mind is like a heat seeking missile - what you focus on comes to be. Look at the negative and everything will be negative, look for the positive and a whole new wonderful world opens up.

Anxiety, Panic, Depression and Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

While it is comforting to know that you are not alone in your suffering, please be aware that connections through support groups can keep feeding the inner turmoil. It is important to look for ways with hypnosis and hypnotherapy to learn to control your symptoms rather than relying on drugs (prescription and recreational), alcohol, excessive behaviour etc. Your subconscious mind knows the reason why you feel the way you do and only accessing your sub mind can you make the change necessary.

What a powerful tool and resource you would develop inside yourself to deal with the symptoms of panic. Being able to control the symptoms rather than to be controlled. This is within your power and hypnotherapy can help you unleash the power that is within you.

Sometimes we can learn to play “the victim” role. Now before you scream “no, I don’t” think about this – think of the “benefits” you may learned from feeling panic, anxiety, stress – perhaps at work less pressure is put on you or perhaps your family does more for you. There are always pay-offs – otherwise we wouldn’t feel the anxiety and stress. The beauty of hypnosis is that in a very short period of time (maximum 12 weeks), you re-learn how to get benefits in more positive ways. Why continue feeling the anxiety, panic, depression – if you really want to change you can, it finding the right tool to help you. I have seen and experienced the difference hypnosis and hypnotherapy can make. Don’t you deserve some inner peace?
